The internationally recognised Arches could rightly regard itself as the most innovative and dynamic venue within the city. Known most prominently as the home of established and up and emerging talent from across the continent, the acclaimed art venue offers a platform to new and exciting performers in theatre, comedy, music and visual art.
The venue also doubles up as one of the most popular night clubs in the city and was voted by a collection of well known DJ’s as amongst the top 10 clubs in the world in DJ Magazine. The Huge venue with capacity for 3,000 clubbers, hosts Octopussy on a Wednesday – mainly aimed at but not exclusive to students, this club night features a Jacuzzi, bouncy castle, wedding chapel and swimming pull amongst the numerous dance floors and selection of music genres and DJ’s. The club’s headline nights include Colours, Inside Out, Death Disco, Pressure and Freefall which regularly host the world’s top DJ’s (Pete Tong, Sasha, Laurent Garnier, Judge Jules) and draw crowds from across the UK and further afield.
Committed to the promotion of new talent, the Arches is unique in its status as a not-for-profit organisation in that all hospitality revenues from its activities are reinvested in the production of innovative new projects and the recruitment of emerging talent to ensure the art community continues to thrive in the city. The diversity of the venue has made it somewhat of an institution and house hold name within the city and it is this diversity that makes it so accessible to all. From its club nights, live music, visual and performing arts to its chic café and restaurant, the Arches is a must see for any visitor to Glasgow.
The Arches is situated in the Argyle Street region of the city, about a 20 minute walk from the McLays Guest house. The most simple way for guests to find the Venue is to continue down to Buchanan Street (the large pedestrian road which features a shopping mall and Subway station) until they reach the bottom (around the adjacent Bank of Scotland) and turn right onto Argyle Street where they continue until the tunnel at McDonalds. Entrances from here depend on the activity the visitor is undertaking at the venue and can be found here.
